12 May 2025: Geoff Courtney, Sales Director UK & Eire at Envases UK, has taken up the role of chair of the Metal Packaging Manufacturers Association (MPMA), succeeding Aidan Ruddock who had held the post since April 2019.
Deputy chair of MPMA since 2021, Geoff has worked in sales in the packaging industry in a variety of roles since 1994. His first position in metal packaging was for general line company, Pechiney (Trivium Packaging today), based out of Norwich. He then joined beverage can company, Ball Packaging (Ardagh Packaging today), and also became a member of the MPMA Council.
During his time at Ball, Geoff also served as director and chair of beverage can industry bodies, BCME and The Can Makers, delivering many successful industry initiatives during his tenure.
Having an extensive career background in packaging, Geoff is looking forward to working with the MPMA team and member companies to continue to face the challenges and promote the benefits of metal packaging in the UK.
“We are delighted that Geoff has accepted this role. He has long been supportive of MPMA and has already made a significant contribution on our council and as deputy chair,” said Jason Galley, Director and Chief Executive, MPMA.
“The UK packaging industry has many challenges on the legislative front, and in the face of an increasingly volatile and unpredictable international environment there has rarely been a more vital time for the collective front and leadership that trade associations provide. I am delighted to be working closely with Jason and the MPMA team to present a united response for metal packaging,” said Geoff.
